Tap Classes for Boys, Girls & Adults

All ages and abilities welcome!

From first steps to Fred Astaire join us for tap classes in Banstead

At Banstead Academy of Performing Arts we follow the Tap syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D)

Tap dance is a form of dance characterised by using the sound of ones Tap shoes hitting a surface (the floor) as a percussive instrument. Two major variations on Tap dance exist, Rhythm Tap and Broadway Tap. Tap dance is usually performed as Musical Theatre.

The syllabi ranges in grades suitable for children as young as three years old, up to vocational examinations to prepare students for entry into full time dance training.

We offer Pre-Primary classes all the way up to Advanced, and Adult classes at a variety of different levels.
It is never too late to start Tap dancing!

Tap classes are fun and dynamic, we work on improvisation and free work along side the syllabus. We use lively rhythms and stylised movements whilst maintaining the highest technique.

Pupils are encouraged and worked towards examinations completing each grade with the greatest sense of achievement.

Tap dance is becoming ever increasingly commercial and we pride ourselves in teaching a mixture of English and American techniques and steps, in order to stay true to the tap style.

Banstead Dance Classes 5 Star Reviews

I've been an adult member of BAPA for several years, attending weekly Jazz and Tap classes.

The classes are one of the highlights of my week. They provide a great workout, both physically and mentally, but we also have time to socialise and enjoy each other’s company.

I'm fortunate to have Nadine as my teacher. She's very professional, an excellent teacher and manages to pass on technique as well as making the lessons fun. We are given lots of encouragement and have the opportunity to take exams and participate in shows if we wish, but are under no pressure to do so.

I would definitely recommend BAPA classes for exercise and fun!

I have been doing the adult jazz and tap class with Nadine for 6 years now and I thoroughly enjoy our Monday classes. Nadine brings so much enthusiasm and energy to every class she does. The dance routines are so much fun and the dance shows are always amazing. She is a brilliant teacher who has helped me grow in my dancing and given me more confidence.

Where to start with BAPA? Banstead Academy of Performing Arts really has changed my life, as cliché as it sounds, I found it at the best time. I was a dancer and cheerleader as a child, and then unfortunately put on lots of weight and my confidence (and dancing ability!) vanished. I missed that feeling of dancing and expressing myself, and so I searched for a local adult dance class and have NEVER looked back. I currently attend one of BAPA’s adult jazz classes, where we do a range of styles from hip-hop, to contemporary to musical theatre, to disco….and everything we do we do with a smile and a giggle. There is no pressure to be a perfect dancer, the most important thing is to have fun, learn some new skills and to never give up.

Miss Nadine is a blessing, she is not just our dance teacher, she is our friend, and sometimes even our counsellor. Dance teachers like Miss Nadine are people that we should hold on too – they can see when you’re feeling down in the dumps, and they know just what to do or how to cheer you up. She doesn’t give up on us. On my first term, I could not for the life of me master a move, and little by little each week she helped me step to step…..and within only a few weeks I COULD DO IT!!

The show preparation gave me such a feeling of excitement and adrenaline….and being part of a team. No matter what my ability is (I am a rubbish dancer in my eyes, and I am severely overweight) but that does not stop me, I turn up each week and do my best and there is no judgement. I have seen the other classes that BAPA hold, not just the adult classes, and the patience, kindness and determination that all of the teachers have is so wonderful to see. Each BAPA teacher really cares about all of their students, from the beginners to the experienced dancers.

I found BAPA at the best time as it has helped my anxiety and mental health massively, I am so proud and blessed to be a part of the BAPA family, they are truly angels!

I have been attending Adult Jazz and Tap classes for over 4 years now and absolutely love them.

Nadine is a wonderful teacher and very patient when our brains have trouble remembering things!!

The classes are great fun and you forget that you are actually exercising.

I have always had issues with body confidence but feel totally comfortable doing the classes which are suitable for all levels, ages, shapes and sizes!!

I loved tap dancing as a child so it’s lovely to be able to it again and in jazz we just have great fun learning routines to some fabulous songs.

I highly recommend these classes. Nadine and all her teachers are lovely. They take great joy in passing on their skills and their enthusiasm is infectious.

Miss Nadine has made BAPA an inclusive and welcoming, friendly environment for students of all ages and abilities. As parents of a keen dancer who has pursued this as a career and also of a child with learning difficulties, both have found great comfort and enjoyment at BAPA.
