Modern Dance Classes

Modern Dance Classes

At Banstead Academy of Performing Arts we follow the Modern syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D)

The syllabi ranges in grades suitable for children as young as four years old, up to vocational examinations to prepare students for entry into full time dance training.

We offer Primary classes all the way up to Intermediate.

These classes are expressive and can be abstract. The Modern style uses the entire body and pupils are encouraged to take classical Ballet classes to compliment their Modern technique.

It employs the fundamental technique and body control using abdominal strength but permits greater range of movement than Classical Ballet.

These classes allow the pupils to be creative and work within their own facilities whilst encouraging flexibility and range of movement.

Pupils are encouraged and worked towards examinations to naturally progress through the grades making it easier to cope with the more difficult steps the higher you go.

Modern dance allows us to explore the contemporary avenue and we do work on many well known techniques.
Being creative allows us to do plenty of floor work and develop our strength and vocabulary of movement, whilst allowing it to be creative and individual.
